About the CA Pound Human Identification Lab
This laboratory was endowed by the late C. Addison and Annie Pound. This endowment funds basic operating expenses in support of the laboratory’s mission. We welcome additional sponsors, as there are multiple ways to support Florida Forensic Anthropology!
Dr. William R. Maples founded the lab in its original location in the early 1990s. We moved to the Cancer/Genetics Research Center on Mowry Road in the mid-2000s. Our mission of providing forensic skeletal examinations for medical examiners throughout the state of Florida, as well as field recoveries, has expanded to include our body donation program, and 3D modeling of human and nonhuman skeletal elements. We also maintain a selective experiential learning program for UF undergraduates and visiting interns who wish to learn more about forensic anthropology and forensic laboratory practice and policy.
CAPHIL faculty and staff conduct casework and perform research in biological anthropology, forensic identification, skeletal trauma analysis, and a diversity of topics within the field of biological anthropology. The CAPHIL aspires to and substantially complies with ISO17025 and Supplemental Standards, as well as the best practice guidelines and minimum standards for the discipline as established by the SWGANTH and the NIST OSAC subcommittee on forensic anthropology.
