Anatomical Gift Program

C. Addison Pound, Jr. a
Gainesville businessman and
philanthropist, endowed the
funds that created and maintain
this lab.

A short list of what we will teach from your skeleton:

  • The signs of age and process of aging
  • Skeletal signs of ancestry
  • Signs of health, disease, and normal variations
  • Techniques for conducting a forensic investigation
  • How occupations and hobbies affect the skeleton

We focus on the story of your life as shown by your skeleton. Your skeleton will be used to educate the world—or just a small pool of University of Florida students, it is your choice.

We accept donors who are not eligible for medical anatomy programs. Donors with the following situations are acceptable:

  • Bone breaking trauma
  • Had an autopsy
  • Was exposed or decomposed
  • Had Hepatitis or HIV

Will donating allow me to have a “free funeral”?

No, donation is not free, but it is considerably cheaper than a typical funeral or cremation!

Your funds support the funeral director who transports your remains and writes the death certificate. CAPHIL sometimes has monetary gifts that subsidize these costs. Please contact us to determine if funds are available.

Can I support the CAPHIL Skeletal Donation Program with a monetary gift rather than donating my skeleton?

Yes! Your donation will be used to support multiple CAPHIL functions, including making skeletal donation possible for those with limited funds, improving research in forensic anthropology, and extending public education about the human skeleton.
